It is located 330 kilometres (205 mi) northwest of the state capital, Jaipur. Bikaner city is the administrative headquarters of Bikaner District and Bikaner division. Bikaner railway station is a major railway junction in the North Western Railway zone of Indian Railways. The first railway link to Bikaner was established on 9 December 1891 as part of Jodhpur State Railway and it has undergone many administrative modifications since then. In between these two stations, the railway line passes along an extremely narrow strip of land engulfed by buildings on both sides. With absolutely no scope left for development of railways, except by demolishing the surrounding buildings, the line is still a single line, while doubling is being carried out in other parts of the route.
