When I wrote the "Buying Compass" article, I was provided with several avalanche transceivers available on the market. I was able to test and roughly evaluate them. For this purpose, I devised two test setups: A range test to determine the range in all situations, and a scenario simulating multiple burials, both with and without interference on the body. This simulation allowed me to determine the range in a natural situation, as well as the behavior of the devices during a multiple burial and the search for the second buried victim's transceiver. Interference could include, for example, a smartphone, a GPS watch, heated gloves, or an avalanche airbag. Based on the measured values, I was able to roughly evaluate the devices and make initial assessments of whether a particular device is worthwhile. This simulation allowed me to determine the range in a natural situation, as well as the behavior of the devices during a multiple burial and the search for the second buried victim's transceiver.
