At age 11, Luisa became a Daughter of Mary and, later, at age 18, a Dominican Tertiary. Luisa Piccarreta lived for 64 years in almost total abstinence from food, nourished almost exclusively by the Holy Eucharist and the Divine Will. At age 23, she was united with Jesus in a mystical marriage. At age 24, this marriage was renewed in Heaven, in the presence of the Holy Trinity. It was on this occasion, September 8, 1889, that she received the Gift of the Divine Will, the grace of graces. Thus, the third Fiat, that of Sanctification, took shape on earth and began to unfold. At the age of 33, Luisa began writing her books on the Divine Will, in obedience to the Lord and her confessor, Annibale Di Francia. For 40 years, Luisa wrote the 36 volumes of the Book of Heaven, which recount her dialogues with Jesus, revealing his extraordinary teachings on life in the Divine Will. Luisa died on March 4, 1947, at the age of 81. Her confessor, Father Annibale Di Francia, was beatified by Pope John Paul II on October 7, 1990, and canonized on May 16, 2004. On November 20, 1994, the Feast of Christ the King, Bishop Cassati, in the main church of Corato, officially inaugurated the beatification process of the Servant of the Lord. In March 1997, on the 50th anniversary of Luisa's death, the tribunal responsible for the cause of beatification unanimously declared that Luisa had lived a life of heroic virtue and that her mystical experiences were authentic.
