Cross sectional anatomy of the female pelvis

This video deals with the anatomy of the pelvis and perineum in transverse anatomical and axial CT sections. The video begins with a transverse anatomical section at the level of the iliac crest and continues down to the perineum. The anatomical structures in the sections are linked to diagrams and plastic models for comparison. The anatomical sections are arranged to match the orientation of CT sections to provide a better understanding of the imaging anatomy of the pelvis. The arrangement of pelvic and perineal structures is followed in (18) serial transverse anatomical sections of the pelvis and perineum and compared with (6) representative axial CT sections at different levels. 00:00 Introduction 00:30 Section 1 level of L4 03:47 Section 2 level of L5/S1 5:00 Axial CT 1 level of L5/S1 06:03 Section 3 level of S1 07:20 Section 4 Sacroiliac joint 08:43 Axial CT 2 level of ASIS 09:32 Section 5 ovarian fossa 10:46 Section 6, the lower part of the sacrum 11:54 Section 7 fundus of the uterus 12:25 Axial CT 3 uterus 12:43 Section 8 upper part of the acetabulum, round ligament of the uterus 13:51 Axial CT 4 uterus, round ligament of the uterus 14:04 Section 9 acetabulum, rectouterine pouch of Douglas 14:31 Section 10 rectal valve of Houston 15:10 Section 11 ampulla of the rectum, cervix, ischial spine, coccygeus muscle 16:18 Section 12 vault of the vagina 16:34 Section 13 urinary bladder, ureter, lateral fornix, water under the bridge 18:32 Section 14 intramural ureter, puborectalis, acetabular labrum, ischioanal fossa 20:36 Axial CT 5 ischioanal fossa 20:50 Section 15 pubic symphysis 21:38 Section 16 ischial tuberosity, urethra, pudendal (Alcock's) canal 22:27 Axial CT 6 pubic symphysis, obturator foramen 22:46 Section 17 crura of the clitoris, anal canal 23:20 Section 18 labium majus, vestibule of the vagina Presented and edited by Akram Jaffar, Ph.D. After completion of this video session, it is expected that you will be able to identify the anatomical features: Vessels: common iliac artery, right common iliac vein, left common iliac vein, external iliac artery and vein, internal iliac vessels, femoral artery and vein, obturator artery, internal pudendal artery, mesenteric vessels.
