In this video lesson, we will examine the manufacturing processes of gears used in various mechanical engineering industries and beyond. The technological process of gear manufacturing always begins with the selection of the gear rim, as gear manufacturing methods can be applied to different types of gear rims. Every engineering and technical worker understands that manufacturing gears and cogwheels requires significant knowledge in both their design and the development of setups for gear-cutting equipment. For example, bevel gears are easier to manufacture using drawing and planing, while gears, which are manufactured on gear shaping machines, can be made with internal teeth. To produce gear teeth, you will also need a special cutting tool, which will vary greatly depending on the gear rim. If you work in a metalworking plant, you are likely familiar with the gear manufacturing process, although there are cases where an engineer has worked there for many years and is unaware of gear manufacturing technology.
