Alan Lomax recordings of UP Finns 1938.
This is a film clip from the DVD "Alan Lomax Goes North". This DVD is included in the book : "Folksongs of Another America" by Dr. James Leary of the University of Wisconsin. The publishers are the University of Wisconsin Press - http://uwpress.wisc.edu/books/5231.htm and Dust to Digital Publishing - http://www.dust-digital.com/folksongs/ At about 4:54 is the recording of Aapo Juhani, done on September 28, 1938 in Calumet Michigan. That evening, Alan Lomax would travel up the road to Mohawk, to record my grandfather Kusti Simila. Unfortunately, he only recorded the audio, and is not on this clip.
