Musicians' Unions 101: Using Unions Strategically For Career Building

I've always been about helping musicians navigate the transition between conservatory and a professional orchestra career. For me, one of the methods that was most effective in helping me to build a freelance career was joining the local union, networking with union members, and getting to know many of the professional freelancers in Boston. I'm honored to have had the chance to interview two of our local union leaders at the Boston Musicians' Association, President Dave Rufino and board member, Amelia Ames. We had a great conversation where we discussed the benefits of union membership and how unions can help students and new conservatory graduates.
