Brinley Richards: Warblings at Eve (Romance), Op.71

Phillip Sear plays a sentimental nocturne from 1858 by the Welsh composer (Henry) Brinley Richards (1817-85). --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Welsh composer (Henry) Brinley Richards (1817-85) was a master of 'bel canto' piano transcriptions of popular songs and operatic extracts, but also wrote original pieces. It is easy to laugh at Victorian sentiment as shown in pieces such as this, but be aware of the double standards rife in music criticism. If this was arranged for voice and orchestra and given Italian words, it could easily pass as an aria by a major bel canto opera composer and remain popular today. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Played by Phillip Sear http://www.psear.co.uk (Email: [email protected] WhatsApp: http://wa.me/441444483794 ) TikTok:   / pianogems
