In this video, I'm going to change the clutch master cylinder in my Ford Focus. This time, I'm going to replace the clutch master cylinder because it's been malfunctioning for several days. What I'm noticing is that the pedal gets soft and it's hard to shift gears. WHAT IS THE FUNCTION OF THE CLUTCH MASTER CYLINDER? The function of the car's clutch master cylinder is to "pump" the clutch fluid (which is the same as the brake fluid) from the pedal that we press, to the clutch release bearing. By doing this, the clutch is engaged, causing it to separate from the flywheel, allowing us to shift into the desired gear. WHY AM I CHANGING THE CLUTCH MASTER CYLINDER? In this particular case, I'm replacing the clutch master cylinder because I suspect it's "generating" or "sucking in" air. When I press the pedal, I'm compressing that air and not applying force to the release bearing, so the clutch isn't engaging and the gears won't shift. Replacing the clutch master cylinder on a Ford Focus isn't a complex task. You only need to disassemble and remove a few components to access the master cylinder and replace it with a new one. The most complicated part is bleeding the system. I tried bleeding it by gravity, but I wasn't successful. I ended up bleeding it by pumping the pedal until fluid reached the release bearing and then letting fluid out through the bleeder valve until all the air was expelled. PARTS NEEDED TO REPLACE THE CLUTCH MASTER CYLINDER: *Clutch master cylinder (clutch master cylinder). *DOT4 brake fluid. Now that you know how to change the clutch master cylinder, I encourage you to try replacing it yourself if you have the right tools, basic mechanical knowledge, and are feeling confident. If you have any questions, leave a comment and I'll help you however I can. #franwheels #fordfocus #focusmk1 #clutch
