Our Underground Tour in Mammoth Caves was RATED DIFFICULT! @mammothcavenationalpark-na8506
ℹ️ About the Episode: Mammoth Caves National Park in Kentucky is the largest cave system on Earth! We did one of the most challenging tours - The Grand Historic Tour. Four hours, four miles and 640 steps; rated “difficult” by the park! We traversed 330 ft below the surface. One section was by lantern and was incredibly awesome to see how dark it could get and tell “echo” in complete darkness. The cave remains a perfect 54 degrees year round - bring a sweater if you get cold easily. Our favorite part was Fat Man’s Misery, which was narrow and winds around. There was another part that requires you to bend in half to squeeze through. We also saw The Rotunda, Giant's Coffin, Bottomless Pit, Tuberculosis Huts, River Styx, Gothic Ave, Star Chamber, and Mammoth Dome. Interestingly enough there is even a restroom break about half way through - in a cave the plumbing is pumped up 280ft to the surface (how cool is that?!). Several bats spotted in the cave. This was an amazing tour and our guide was awesome! Highly recommend 5/5 star tour. https://www.nps.gov/maca/planyourvisi... #rvtravel #rvlife #rvtips #rvmaintenance #rvdestinations #rvlifestyle #rv #travel #travelvlog #travelblogger 🔔 What’s in store next? We are a family of four traveling part-time in our Entegra Accolade XL 37L Super C Motorhome. We began traveling in 2020 when COVID had us cooped up at home. Exploring the country in an RV had been on our bucket list and we figured there was no better time to get started and we have not stopped since. Even though we travel part-time, we put a lot of miles on our motorhome each season averaging 12-15k miles. Our home base is in Illinois and we have two teen daughters in school, so our peak travel and adventure season is end of May through mid-August. Although, we still get out through mid-November with trips close to home and using all of those available weekends! We have traveled a lot in the Midwest but have taken trips as far out west as Rocky Mountain National Park and Yellowstone National Park. We love to explore new destinations and have lots of places on our to-do list. We love hiking, biking (just got new Lectric e-bikes, historic points of interest, national parks, theme parks, beaches…pretty much anything outside! Our Motto? Don’t Wait. Start Exploring. Always Plan Your Next Adventure. We decided this was our motto because there is never a better time to enjoy life than now. Why wait “until retirement”? What if you wait all your life to get out and explore, knock things off your bucket list and then life throws you a curveball? Why wait until the kids are grown when you can travel with them and show them the history they are learning in school? We set out to prove that you don’t need to be “full-time” RVers, or sell your home, or homeschool your kids to be able to enjoy RV living. That may work for some (and that is totally cool if that is your jam), but we were not ready to “sell it all”. We “want it all” …meaning we love to travel, but we also love to have our home base and family to come back to.
