Anchorages in the Sea of Cortez: Isla Estanque - reefs, hikes, snorkelling & almost aground

Isla Estanque is a unique anchorage in the Northern Sea of Cortez / Gulf of California. Join us as on our sailing catamaran Not All There as we explore this incredible bay at the South Eastern tip of Isla Angel de la Guarda. This visit challenged us more than usual - first our dinghy anchor became stuck, and then we almost ran aground on the sharp rocks that lie not deep enough under the surface! The great snorkelling and amazing vistas from the hillside besides the incredibly sheltered anchorage - also known as The Pond - certainly more than made up for it. More, we were delighted to be in this shelter when strong winds arrived. When we set out sailing without any experience some years ago, we asked ourselves The Question: Can two retired old farts find happiness and joy cruising full-time, while exploring distant shores, cultures and countries?
