Lando Norris says he believes he can beat any driver and would welcome Max Verstappen as a McLaren team-mate. That confidence is huge from Norris, but it also creates a massive question for Piastri. If McLaren are seriously open to Verstappen, and Norris is publicly comfortable with that idea, does Piastri have to think about protecting his own future? VERSTAPPEN TO MCLAREN NOISE The Verstappen-to-McLaren rumour refuses to go away. Zak Brown has backed Piastri, Norris has backed himself, and McLaren keep insisting they are happy with their current line-up. But in Formula 1, the question is never just what a team says. It is what a team would do if a driver like Max Verstappen became available. FERRARI FIRE BACK Fred Vasseur has hit back at Toto Wolff after Mercedes questioned Ferrari’s upgrade spending. Ferrari believe they are operating inside the rules, while Mercedes are watching closely as the upgrade war gets more intense. That makes Ferrari versus Mercedes one of the biggest political battles of the 2026 season. RUSSELL WARNING George Russell has warned F1 rivals that they could pay the price in the Mercedes development hunt. After winning in Austria, Russell and Mercedes arrive at Silverstone with momentum, but the warning is clear: teams who overspend too early or chase the wrong upgrades could suffer later. SAINZ RED FLAG RULE Carlos Sainz wants a new punishment for drivers who cause red flags in qualifying. His proposal is a three-place grid penalty, aimed at stopping drivers gaining an unfair advantage when mistakes ruin other laps. That could become a major FIA debate.
