Japanese Anemone: A Late Summer Beauty

The Japanese Anemone (Eriocapitella hupensis or Anemone hupehensis) is a beautiful flower that brightens the flower bed during the transition from late summer to early autumn in the UK. Their tall stalks lift them above the vegetation where they are catch the eye when the rest of the flower bed is looking dull. This species is not actually native to Japan, and is instead native to China as well as the neighbouring countries of Nepal, Tibet, Taiwan, and Myanmar. This species is a member of the family Ranunculaceae, which includes popular ornamental flowers such as buttercups, hellebores, delphiniums, and nigella.
