We invite you to watch the recording of a meeting devoted to the book "Film Distribution in the Polish People's Republic in the Years 1957–1989" by Konrad Klejsa, Jarosław Grzechowiak, and Emil Sowiński. The discussion with the authors was moderated by Michał Oleszczyk (Faculty of "Artes Liberales" at the University of Warsaw), a film scholar, critic, and host of the SpoilerMaster podcast. The event took place on May 8, 2026, at the Museum of Cinematography in Łódź. This publication is the second volume of a research project devoted to the film distribution system in the Polish People's Republic. This 1,130-page study, based on extensive archival research, fills one of the most important gaps in Polish film studies. During the meeting, the authors presented selected mechanisms of the state distribution monopoly, demonstrating how institutions in the Polish People's Republic controlled the circulation of films. They discussed decision-making processes regarding import and repertoire, as well as the influence of ideology and international relations on the availability of foreign titles. A significant portion of the discussion also focused on the practice of working with archival materials and the methodology of research on cultural institutions, revealing the extensive source base of the entire project. The meeting demonstrated that the book can be read in many ways: as a source of historical knowledge, as a record of institutional practices, but also as a key to understanding the film memories of generations raised in the Polish People's Republic.
