Braga is a city that captivates with its history, its architecture, its people… and its tranquility. Known as the “Portuguese Rome,” it welcomes thousands of tourists every year. But have you ever wondered how low-income people live in Europe? Today we delve into the social neighborhoods of Portugal, specifically the city of Braga, a very different reality than that depicted in tourist brochures. Places where thousands of people—Portuguese and migrants—live, with stories worth telling. In Portugal, “bairros sociais” are housing complexes built by the state or the municipality to provide low-cost housing for low-income people. There are several in Braga, but the best known are Enguardas, Parretas, Picoto, and part of Santa Tecla. Most were built between the 1970s and 1990s, when poverty and social exclusion became more visible after the Carnation Revolution. Today, they remain a refuge for many families, but also a source of social and political debate. So stay and watch this video to discover the other side of Europe. #europe #europeanneighborhoods #europe #portugal #socialneighborhoods #poverty #poor
