For us, breaking horses to harness is more than just putting them in the carriage; we believe training horses to drive should also encompass a variety of situations and environments that they might encounter in the future. When training heavy horses to drive, we believe they should be confident and happy in traffic even when young and newly-broken. We believe even draft horses that do forestry work (logging etc) or farm work such as ploughing should be happy to work on the road or in busy environments as well as in fields and woods, right from the start of their driving career. This film shows the shires working with other horses, being driven down town amongst heavy traffic, going into water, working on our sleigh over different surfaces, doing an emergency stop and being driven by their owner.
