Day 4 Port Augusta to Coober Pedy

Day 4 – Port Augusta ➡️ Coober Pedy Today's adventure had a little bit of everything: salt, flies, getting lost, and an unexpected visit to the hospital. We started the day at Lake Hart, taking in the incredible white salt lake stretching as far as the eye could see. Naturally, someone had to taste the salt to confirm it was actually salt. Scientific research complete. 🧂 Lake Hart also nearly claimed its first victim when Winter rolled her ankle while exploring. Thankfully she bounced back quickly and continued on like nothing had happened. Next came the flies. Lots of flies. Armed with our fashionable fly nets, we looked less like seasoned travellers and more like a family of beekeepers who had taken a wrong turn somewhere near Port Augusta. Talking without swallowing a fly became today's main challenge. After arriving in Coober Pedy, we spent some time exploring the famous dirt streets and proving that GPS is more of a suggestion than a guarantee. Just when we thought the day was winding down, Winter suddenly started swelling up in hives and shaking like a Taylor Swift concert crowd. Cue concerned parents. A quick trip to the local hospital later, and thankfully everything checked out fine. The staff were fantastic, Winter was okay, and Mum's stress levels eventually returned to something resembling normal. With the excitement behind us, we ended the evening sitting around a beautiful campfire under the outback sky. Not exactly the day we planned, but definitely one we'll remember.
