Analysis Services and MDX Essentials with Paul Turley

SQL Server Analysis Services is the foundation of Microsoft’s Business Intelligence platform. SSAS multidimensional, originally called OLAP services, has been part of the SQL Server family since 1998 and is now the core technology for newer in-memory analytics tools like Power Pivot and SSAS Tabular. By using SSAS cubes and models effectively, you can query and analyze large volumes of data with complex calculations very quickly. In this session, you’ll learn to build a basic semantic model and use MDX (multi dimensional expressions) to write queries for reporting and self-service browsing. I’ll share some real-world examples of reporting tools that utilize SSAS & MDX including Excel, SSRS and Datazen, Microsoft’s new mobile dashboard solution.
