What happened to the Oldsmobile Aurora? Back in the mid 90s, Oldsmobile rolled out its brand new flagship, the Aurora luxury sports sedan. The Oldsmobile Aurora was designed to replace the Toronado coupe as well as the Oldsmobile Regency--using V8 and eventually V6 engines, riding on a platform shared with the Buick Riviera. The Oldsmobile Aurora was ambitiously priced and it competed with other high end sedans. With a bold and striking sedan, the Oldsmobile Aurora's mission was simple: bring in new, younger buyers to Oldsmobile showrooms. The car spanned two generations, and while it did great numbers initially, very little could be done to reverse Oldsmobile's steadily declining sales.
