Rose Room - Humphrey Lyttelton and Alex Welsh Jazz Band - Live 1971
Trumpeters Humphrey Lyttelton and Alex Welsh were two of the most accomplished and renowned band leaders in British Jazz history. Their bands were always top flight and they made hundreds of recordings as well as concert appearances. This audio selection is from a concert that was a tribute to the late Louis Armstrong who had died a little more than four months earlier. Humphrey Lyttelton was a guest performer and he was given the opportunity to replace Alex Welsh on this particular tune. While "Rose Room" is not a song typically associated with Louis Armstrong this rendition does have a relaxed feel and swing reminiscent of the Armstrong All Stars of the late 1940s. The personnel and soloist are noted in the video. Enjoy!
