Meridian (Ola Gjeilo) - CUC Wind Symphony

March 16, 2018 - Chapel of Our Lord - River Forest, IL Conducted by Dr. Richard Fischer Meridian (2011) Ola Gjeilo Meridian comes across very much out of love for ostinato-, or groove-based, music. Having grown up with the often World Music-infused jazz of Kieth Jarett and Jan Garbarek, as well as other influences such as Shostakovitch symphonies, I've been easily drawn to having a consistent rhythmic drive on my music. Also, my love of 7/8 meter pops out a couple of places. -Ola Gjeilo Ola Gjeilo was born in Norway in 1978, and moved to New York in 2001 to begin his composition studies at the Julliard School after two years at the Royal College of Music in London. He especially enjoys writing for choir, orchestra/symphonic winds, and the piano. As a pianist, his main passion is improvisation - either solo or over his own ensemble works.
