Cargo Ship Golden Star 1 Sinks in Batam Waters, 107 Containers Drift Overboard The cargo ship MV Golden Star 1 reportedly sank in the international Traffic Separation Scheme (TSS) shipping lane in Batam waters on Friday (June 5) evening. The incident caused hundreds of containers to drift overboard, disrupting shipping. Yusirwan Nasution, Head of the Law Enforcement Division (Gakkum) of the Batam Special Operations Office (KSOP), stated that the ship suffered a severe leak in the bow before sinking. "The bow leaked and the ship was already listing at about 10 degrees. The ship was tilted upwards, and the stern was no longer visible," Yusirwan said while disembarking on a KPLP patrol boat docked at Bintang99 port on Friday (June 5) evening. According to information received from the Singapore Vessel Traffic Service (VTS), the Tanzanian-flagged ship sank quickly after experiencing a leak in the forepeak.
