#288 Spotkajmy się w definicjach. O terminach używanych w pracy z talentami
I recently heard the phrase, "Let's meet in the definitions." It stopped me in my tracks. Because very often, we're talking to someone, using the same word, the same phrase—and underneath, we have two different meanings. And only when we stop and say, "Hey, but I mean this and that," do we realize that we can only now talk about the same thing. I've noticed that this is exactly what happens around Gallup's talents and the CliftonStrengths methodology. We use the same terms—talent, strength, investment, weakness, mature, immature, balcony, basement—but not always with the same meanings. Some of them come directly from Gallup's research, while others are coaching concepts that have developed around this method. It's worth knowing where each comes from. This episode is an attempt to organize things. For myself, but also for you – so that the next time you hear or read something about talent, strengths, or investments, you can, can, can immediately know: aha, this is it. Here we go. Key Information: Talent × Investment = Strength – this is the Gallup formula on which the entire method is based. Talent itself means nothing. Talent is a naturally recurring pattern of thinking, feeling, or behavior that can be productively applied. We don't acquire it – it's built in. A strength is not a potential or a trait, but the ability to consistently achieve near-perfect results in a specific task (Near Perfect Performance). A weakness has two meanings – not just a deficiency, but also the misapplication of talent, skill, or knowledge that harms us or others. Strength-based doesn't mean "forget about weaknesses" – we start development with talents, but we manage weaknesses: we look for partners, tools, and processes. Immature talent can be more dangerous than a lack of it – because it operates reactively, on autopilot, and often becomes a "misapplication" of the definition of weakness. What about research, what about coaching – talent, investment, strength, weakness, the 5 guiding principles, and the 4 domains come directly from Gallup research. Mature/immature talent, balcony/basement, helps/hinders are coaching concepts that have developed around the method. Talents always work in combination – the Activator works differently for someone with an Analyst than for someone with Flexibility. Therefore, after breaking down the profile into individual talents, you always need to put them back together. Full notes can be found at: https://dominikjuszczyk.pl/2026/04/28...
