MTD Push Mower Wheels Won’t Stay In Place? Axle, Height Adjuster & Frame Repair Guide
Are the wheels on your MTD made push mower not staying in place? Is the mower cutting uneven, dropping from one height setting to another, or does it seem like the axle, wheel adjuster, or frame just will not hold correctly anymore? In this video we go over two different MTD built push mowers and show the common problems that cause these issues. The two mowers repaired in this video are a Troy Bilt and a Craftsman, but these same axle, deck height, and wheel support problems are found on many MTD made walk behind mowers across multiple brands. Whether your mower is a regular push mower or a self propelled model, this design can develop wear or damage in the axle mounts, axle supports, frame area, or height adjuster system that causes the wheel position to move, the deck to sit uneven, or the mower to keep falling into the wrong cutting height. We show what to inspect, how to tell whether the problem is the axle itself, the mounting points, the supports, or the adjuster components, and how to install replacement axles and axle supports correctly. If your mower looks crooked, one side sits lower than the other, or the wheels will not stay locked into the desired position, this repair information should help you understand what failed and what needs to be replaced.
