Besides Kolkata, the EMU trains are operational in Delhi, some northern parts of Uttarpradesh, Mumbai & some parts of Gujarat, Chennai & Hyderabad (known as MMTS). These types of trains operates through the big cities of India like Kolkata, Delhi, Mumbai etc. & their suburbs. So, the operational railway is also known as Suburban Railways. There are variety of local trains in Kolkata by their looks, faces, colours & their manufacturers. But recently, after the arrival of ICF's 3 phase MEDHA & BOMBARDIER EMUs, most of the earlier conventional rake of EMUs are repainted on MEDHA & BOMBARDIER colour.
