Repent and come to the Lord and say to him: ‘Forgive all our sins, accept our sincere repentance, which we solemnly promise you. No longer will Assyria save us, we will no longer trust in our army, nor will we call the gods our gods. We will no longer call the gods of the land our gods works of our hands, for only in you does the orphan find mercy.’ I will forgive their unfaithfulness, says the Lord; I will love them, even though they do not deserve it, for my anger has turned away from them. I will be like the dew to Israel; my people will blossom like the lily, they will take root like the poplar, and their shoots will spread out; their splendor will be like that of the olive tree, and they will have the fragrance of the cedars of Lebanon. They will again live under my shade, they will cultivate the wheat fields and the vineyards, which will be as famous as those of Lebanon. Ephraim will no longer have anything to do with idols. I have chastised you, but I will also restore you, for I am like a verdant cypress, and thanks to me, you bear fruit. Let the wise understand these things, and let the discerning know them. You will be brought before governors and kings because of me, as a testimony to them and to the Gentiles. But when they arrest you, do not worry about what to say or how to say it. At that time you will be given what to say, for it will not be you speaking, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you. Brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child; children will rebel against their parents and have them put to death. You will be hated by everyone because of me, but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved. When they persecute you in one town, flee to another. Truly I tell you, you will not finish going through all the towns of Israel before the Son of Man comes.”
