Emerging Models: Regenerative & Blended Finance

Tackling the challenges of climate change requires private and public investment at a vast scale -the UN Environment Programme estimates countries may need to spend up to $300B a year by 2030 and $500B by 2050 on adaptation measures. What is needed is new models of ‘regenerative’ and ‘blended finance’ - fresh models of finance, risk and return, where private funding is combined with public, development or philanthropic finance. These require innovative technologies, measures of value and governance models if we are to achieve equitable outcomes that support communities on the ground. A group of EHF Fellows are developing a Climate Impact Fund for Asia Pacific Islands (CLIMAP) for communitarian projects. The fund will test new purpose-driven finance models and instruments. It will invest in communitarian (rather than individual) climate projects focused on climate mitigation, adaptation, regenerative agriculture and oceans for Pacific islands, which are facing catastrophic climate impacts. This is an invitation to learn about a new Climate Action Impact fund, which is being developed by Fellows in response to EHF's New Expedition Climate Challenge. Inspired by the values of Sir Edmund and te ao Māori, the Fund will focus on Island nations in Asia-Pacific and invest across climate mitigation, adaptation, regenerative agriculture and oceans. Its purpose is to champion communitarian climate projects, backed by purpose-driven blended finance models. With a focus on impact, this session is an opportunity to explore an important new initiative focused on unlocking capital for on-the-ground communities.
