Attention Citizen! The new Identity Card can now be requested! The new document will have paper or plastic versions, in addition to the digital model, as is already the case with the National Driver's License. And don't worry, you won't be required to exchange your old ID card. The old model is valid until February 28, 2032, so it's not mandatory to exchange it now, and the trend is that it will gradually fall into disuse. Speaking of the old ID card, there was a serious problem with it. This model could be issued in any Brazilian state, meaning the same person could have 27 different documents, each with a different number. This was always a prime opportunity for criminals to commit all sorts of scams for decades. But thankfully, that's a thing of the past. The new model no longer has its own number. Now the CPF (Brazilian taxpayer ID) will be the only number needed to identify the citizen.
