Recurring Dream (Very Best of Crowded House) was initially released as a two-disc version, the second disc being Special Edition Live Album. Songs were selected by Split Enz bassist Nigel Griggs, who was asked to do the job by Neil Finn. Hundreds of recordings of Crowded House performances arrived for him to evaluate. The selected recordings were not remixed or adjusted in any way before they were put on the album. Unlike Crowded House's Farewell to the World live at the Sydney Opera House album, this isn't a full live concert Crowded House album. While it is an offical release and the album plays as if it were a full live album; it is in fact a mix album, with five of the songs from the same concert, at The Civic Theatre in Newcastle, Australia. The recording of "Fingers of Love" comes from Paul Hester's final show, in Atlanta, before he quit the band. The live show was performed by Neil Finn, Nick Seymour, Paul Hester and Mark Hart, apart from tracks 7, 8, 9 and 10 which feature Tim Finn rather than Hart. The studio version of this track originally appeared on the third studio album by Crowded House, Woodface. Full album track listing: 1 "There Goes God" (live) N. Finn, T. Finn.
