(New Zealand) Auster’s Shadow (The DFC Flight) I Unarmed Over the Enemy: Auster’s Shadow

This track captures the tense, low-level flights of the New Zealand AOP pilots. It focuses on the contrast between the fragile, canvas-covered Auster planes and the massive power of the artillery they directed. It’s a tribute to the "shadow" they cast over the enemy and the incredible bravery of the pilots who earned the DFC in the skies over Korea. Inspired by the New Zealand Air Observation Post pilots of the 16th Field Regiment. Song 61 of the Korean War Anthology takes to the skies with "Auster’s Shadow," the story of New Zealand’s Air Observation Post pilots. Flying unarmed, slow-moving Auster aircraft, these Kiwi pilots hovered over enemy positions to direct the devastating fire of the 16th Field Regiment. This track honors the incredible skill and bravery required to fly "in the shadow" of enemy fire, and the Distinguished Flying Crosses earned by those who became the indispensable eyes of the artillery. It is a tribute to the pilots who proved that sometimes, the most dangerous job in the air is done in the smallest plane. #KoreanWar #NewZealand #Kayforce #Auster #MilitaryHistory #HistoryInMusic #Song61 #Anthology #RNZA #AOP
