Well, this Dutch heritage building, which resembles a Dutch fortress, is actually the former guard dormitory for the Governor-General of the Dutch East India Company (VOC). It was built almost simultaneously with the Bogor Palace in 1743 during the tenure of Governor-General Gustaaf W. Baron van Imhoff. From this Dutch heritage building, we learn a little about the daily life of the Governor-General, who was always guarded by soldiers from the Dutch East India Company (VOC). It's understandable, after all, that he was the number one official during the Dutch East India Company era. If you feel this Dutch building resembles a Dutch fortress, we seem to share the same opinion. According to an intern here, the former guard dormitory resembles a fortress because one of its functions was to anticipate enemy attacks, but it relied solely on the large number of VOC soldiers housed in this building. Remember, this guard dormitory wasn't actually designed as a defensive fortress, merely as a precaution in case an enemy attack threatened the Bogor Palace. The long history of this former guard barracks for the Governor-General continues. It was also used by the Dutch KNIL (National Army) and, at its peak, during the Japanese occupation, became a military training center for the Japanese-formed PETA (Indonesian National Army) army. Here, young men from all over Indonesia received military training to eventually become PETA soldiers, intended to assist the Japanese army in World War II as reserve troops. But fate had other plans. In reality, many PETA soldiers contributed to the nation and state. This was evident in one incident, the PETA rebellion in Blitar led by Pak Supriyadi, whose remains are still unknown. Furthermore, as Indonesia approached the proclamation of independence, more and more PETA soldiers assisted in the independence process and after independence.
