The Thero envisioned a master plan to create an aesthetically pleasing and environmentally friendly 'walking monastery' with hamlets, gravel paths, gardens, organic farms, ponds and large bodies of water, and sculptures. The environment's balance was restored by planting rain gardens and growing a variety of plants, flowers, and trees, both native and exotic to Sri Lanka.
