One Week of Real Life on a Remote Island

Life on a remote island in the North Atlantic rarely goes exactly to plan. This week begins with finally getting that giant boulder moved out of the way so we can start building the foundation for our new shed. With the land finally cleared, Patty and I head out by boat to cut sill logs and haul them home so we can begin the build. Before long, the sawmill is back running and we finally have enough lumber stacked to start making real progress. But, like always out here, there’s never just one project on the go. After helping Patty on a recycling run to the mainland, I turn my attention back to our gravity-fed water system after the one we set up a few weeks ago dries up on us. That means hauling gear up through the bog, rerouting line, finding a better water source, and, of course, getting the quad stuck good in the middle of nowhere. With a little help from neighbours, a shovel, and a lot of mud, we finally get things sorted and make it home just in time for supper. Just another week figuring out life on our little remote island in Newfoundland. Thanks for being here with us.
