Billy Porter received the 2013 Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical for his performance in Kinky Boots. Porter also received a Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Leading Actor in a Musical, an Outer Critics Circle Award, as well as a nomination for a Drama League Award for his performance.
