Creating Without Boundaries and Exploring Guitar Tones with Producer & Guitarist Andrew Watt
With a limitless range of work with artists from Ozzy Osbourne to Miley Cyrus, Post Malone to Eddie Vedder, Dua Lipa to Elton John, Grammy-Award winning producer and guitarist Andrew Watt exemplifies the ability to stretch and evolve. He's known for instantly putting his collaborators at ease, imbuing his work with a sense of fun and for knowing exactly how best to make sure his counterparts shine. Andrew is a highly-skilled musician, who's songwriting is marked with some serious musicianship and a fervent curiosity and love for musical instruments. A studied steward of the craft, his studio is filled with an incredible array of gear for which we were lucky enough to hear the sounds and stories behind a small sampling of his most beloved guitar tones. When you’re after a particular guitar tone, Andrew comes from the school of number one most important thing is the player. After that, it doesn't matter the price on the guitar, it could be great at any cost. What matters is how it feels in your hands, what it does and how it makes you sound. When you find the right one, it’ll make you write differently and might even inspire new songs. In addition to highlighting some of his favorite guitar sounds from his deep collection of gear, including his 1961 Gibson SG, ‘46 Martin D-28, ‘58 Fender Strat, ‘67 Fender Tele, and a ‘64 Hofner bass, Andrew takes us through his pedalboard including his different fuzz, wah, delay, phaser, chorus and overdrive pedals. Finally, he offers up insights on how his guitar playing informs his producing, why he loves collaboration as a form of musical conversation and how everything he does is in service of the song. After you watch the video, be sure to check our article for even further discussion with Andrew Watt on his latest productions and some recently acquired gear that’s provided some fresh inspiration to his guitar playing including a Maestro Phaser pedal, Arp 2600, and the Oberheim OB-X8: https://www.guitarcenter.com/riffs/in...
