Wendell Hall “The Pineapple Picador” Radio Broadcast 2/06/1931 “Lonesome Lover”
No doubt inspired by the success of Rudy Vallee, this episode of Libby’s Pineapple Picador program, the second of two known to survive, features a selection of “Vagabond Songs” written by Hall. He seems to cover almost every corner of the world with these songs of love in foreign shores. Wendell Hall sings, accompanied only by his “Tara-Guitar,” a weird instrument which is essentially a baritone ukulele with eight steel strings tuned a whole step higher. Broadcast February 6, 1931.
