Don't Follow Louisville's Official I-65 Northbound Detour (Use This Route Instead)

This is the final installment in "The MESS That Is the I-65 Shutdown" series. In this roam, I show the complete northbound route around Louisville's I-65 closure while avoiding both the official detour and the Ohio River toll bridges. Starting south of Louisville, the route leaves I-65 and uses I-264 (Watterson Expressway) to reach city streets before traveling north through Louisville and crossing into Indiana using the toll-free Second Street Bridge, officially known as the Lewis and Clark Memorial Bridge. Route and POI shown: 00:01 • I-65 North - Video explained 00:28 • I-264 West (Watterson Expressway) 00:51 • STAY IN THE LEFT 3 LANES 02:15 • STAY IN THE LEFT 2 LANES 03:53 • Exit 11, Crittenden Drive 04:30 • Crittenden Drive 04:55 • Kentucky Kingdom and Thunder Bay 05:30 • Central Avenue 06:33 • Cardinal Stadium 07:21 • 3rd Street North 08:00 • The Louisville Can Opener, explained 10:10 • UofL Campus - Go Cards (NB 3rd St becomes NB 2nd St) 11:00 • IDIOT ALERT! 12:10 • Old Louisville 15:05 • Broadway, explained 15:53 • Downtown Louisville 18:05 • KFC YUM Center | 2nd and Main... most dangerous intersection in town 18:22 • Second Street Bridge (Toll Free) 19:00 • Troll talk, explained 19:50 • US-31 North (Indiana) Along the way, the drive passes through several of Louisville's most recognizable traffic landmarks, including the University of Louisville area and the infamous "Louisville Can Opener" railroad viaducts. During the first week of the I-65 shutdown, these low-clearance bridges saw an unusual spike in crashes as unfamiliar drivers attempted to navigate city streets around the closure. This video serves as the companion to my southbound route guide, providing viewers with a complete look at navigating around Louisville's I-65 shutdown in both directions without paying tolls or following the lengthy official detour. Thanks for following along throughout "The MESS That Is the I-65 Shutdown" series. Hopefully these drives provided useful real-world insight into how traffic has adapted during one of the region's most significant transportation disruptions. #I65 #Louisville #Kentucky #Traffic #RoadTrip #DrivingTour #Detour #NoTolls #OhioRiver #LouisvilleTraffic Thanks for watching and we'll see ya on the next roam! https://linktr.ee/HoosEndeavor ▣▣▣▣▣▣▣▣▣▣▣▣▣▣▣▣▣▣▣▣▣▣▣▣▣▣▣▣▣▣▣▣▣▣▣▣▣▣▣▣▣▣▣▣▣▣▣▣ 📌 Disclaimer: The content on this channel is intended for entertainment purposes only.
