MUSEVENI’s best speech at NAM Summit, cautions World leaders against imposing their narrow ideology
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has called upon the world leaders to concentrate on solving common human problems for shared prosperity as stated in the 10 Bandung principles of non-alignment. “Our stand is that the world should concentrate on the common human problems, prosperity through trade, advanced science and technology to deal with human problems, the environment, crime and terrorism. The future is bright if we act right,” H.E Museveni said in his inaugural address after taking over chairmanship of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) at the 19th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the movement underway at Speke Resort Convention Center, Kampala. The Kampala summit themed: “Deepening Cooperation for Shared Global Affluence” fostered discussions on shared interests at a time the world is facing challenges of emerging power centers, away from the traditional global blocs. According to President Museveni, the 10 principles of NAM which include among others; Respect of fundamental human rights, Respect of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all nations, Recognition of the equality among all races and of the equality among all nations, Non-intervention or non-interference into the internal affairs of another -country and Refraining from carrying out or threatening to carry out aggression, or from using force against the territorial integrity or political independence of any country should be respected for peace in the world to prevail. He expressed dissatisfaction over some actors who claim to be democratic and yet they still promote slavery. “Therefore, we the resistance fighters of Uganda are flabbergasted and look down with contempt at the philosophical, ideological and strategic shallowness of some of the actors of the world. Why not respect the freedom of everybody if you say you are a democrat? How can you say you are a democrat and yet you want other people to be slaves? Why do you not seek to influence people by your good example instead of manipulation, lectures and threats?” H.E Museveni wondered, quoting the book of Mathew: Let your light shine before men, that they see your good deeds and praise your father who is heaven” He further expressed confidence in the emergence of the NAM, describing it as a necessary antidote to the irrational polarization of the World of that time between the Capitalist Western countries and the Communist, mainly Eastern countries. H.E Museveni told the delegates of NAM, that chauvinists of race, religion, tribe or gender should stop wasting time and opportunities with their shallow schemes as this will turn lead to regrettable incidents. “Action will inevitably invite counter action. Oppression will invite resistance. That is why we the resistance fighters of Uganda only fight just wars. The promoters of unjust wars of imperialism, conquest, domination etc., lose most of the time,” Gen Museveni noted, adding that the oppressors tend to miscalculate when they use their temporary advantage in science and technology to think that they can use that to indefinitely oppress other people. “The oppressed will learn, catch up and defeat the oppressor,” He added. The President used the same opportunity to remind the world that Africa is not starving as portrayed in the sections of the media, adding that the continent is already trading with others across the world.
