Cab view of the Chichibu Railway, a private railway in Saitama Prefecture, from Onohata Station to Mitakeguchi Station. This time, I drove 12km from Ohanabatake Station, the starting point of the last time, to the end at Mitsumineguchi Station, in the opposite direction to the last time, heading west. Mitakeguchi Station is the end station in the mountains, and there are deep mountains beyond. The Chichibu Railway opened its entire line in 1930. The main purpose of the construction of this railway was to connect the Chichibu region, located on the western edge of Saitama Prefecture, with the central region of Saitama Prefecture. Even today, this line has a route of about 71km that crosses the center of Saitama Prefecture from east to west, and a branch line for freight transportation of about 4km. Electric operation began in 1922, which was early for a Japanese private railway. In addition to passenger transport, freight trains are also operated to transport limestone produced along the line. This has been significantly scaled down compared to the past, but freight trains continue to operate.
