Andras Tries The Caro Kann with Black!!! Speedrun 2200-2400
In this episode of the speedrun (2200–2400), I do something truly out of character—I play the Caro-Kann. Yes, you read that right. But don’t expect some dry positional squeeze. My opponent chooses the Panov Attack, and from there, things get wild. What begins as a solid, textbook structure quickly spirals into chaos when I voluntarily part ways with both bishops, exchanging them for knights. A questionable decision? Maybe. But the idea was to provoke long-term structural weaknesses—and provoke I did. The position sharpens dramatically, and although I miss a couple of tactical shots along the way, the resulting complications eventually work in my favour. In the second half of the game, I regain the initiative and finish things off with a flourish. This is not your grandfather’s Caro-Kann. Whether you're a fan of strategic imbalances, chaotic middlegames, or just want to see how not to play a quiet opening, this game has it all. As always, I’ll walk you through the thought process move by move, pointing out key ideas, missed opportunities, and why I chose to go down this bizarre (yet instructive) path.
