Director General of Corrections Mashudi stated that drug convict Ammar Zoni will undergo an online trial after being transferred to the Karanganyar Super Maximum Penitentiary on Nusakambangan Island, Cilacap, Central Java. The transfer was announced after Ammar was caught distributing drugs inside Salemba Prison, Central Jakarta. Mashudi stated that Ammar will attend the trial via Zoom. "Yes, one of the options will be via Zoom, right? That's what we're doing," Mashudi told reporters at the Indonesian Parliament Building in Jakarta on Thursday (10/16/2025). Mashudi also explained his considerations in transferring Ammar Zoni. According to him, Ammar is one of the inmates deemed problematic and therefore requires transfer to Nusakambangan. "We will definitely do everything we can to move anyone who has problems," he said. Furthermore, he said he would not have a problem if Ammar Zoni's attorney wanted to transfer his client back to Jakarta. However, he emphasized that Ammar Zoni's position on Nusakambangan Island would not complicate the trial. Then, Mashudi responded to a statement by the Deputy Chairman of Commission XIII of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Andreas Hugo Pareira, who suspected the involvement of prison and detention center officers in Ammar Zoni's drug trafficking. Mashudi confirmed that his office had tightened surveillance within the prison. They had even blocked certain communication signals, such as cell phone signals, GPS, Wi-Fi, and drones. This was done to prevent collaboration between prison officers and inmates in committing illicit acts. "We have already conducted surveillance, right? We have implemented methods such as using jamming devices, right? We have taken action against those who commit violations," he said. As previously reported, the Directorate General of Corrections (PAS) transferred six inmates from Jakarta to Nusakambangan. One of them is Muhammad Ammar Akbar, also known as Ammar Zoni. They are considered high-risk inmates and therefore require maximum security and guidance.
