【なぜ枝が下を向くのか?】美女平の立山杉が教える、雪を受け流す生き方

▼ Previous video in the series | Chubu Sangaku National Park video here    • 【電磁波じゃなかった?】黒部渓谷で見た豪雪地帯の不思議な樹形   Bijodaira, Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route, Toyama Prefecture. A few minutes from the station, entering the nature trail, a deep forest unfolds, lined with giant Tateyama cedars and beech trees. What catches the eye in this forest are the branches of the Tateyama cedars that grow downwards. Unlike typical cedar branches, the branches of Tateyama cedars grow downwards towards the ground. The trunks are not straight, but grow in a curved, twisting manner. This unique tree shape has a reason for surviving in the snow-covered Bijodaira. By pointing the branches downwards, they deflect the weight of the accumulated snow, reducing the risk of breaking. The trunks, instead of directly resisting the pressure of the snow, endure by bending flexibly. What may appear at first glance to be a distorted form may be a perfectly formed shape for survival in this land. This time, we'll take a stroll along the scenic trail near Bijodaira Station, starting from the "Bijo Sugi" (Beautiful Cedar) trees that stand side-by-side in front of the station. While observing the giant Tateyama cedars and beech trees, we'll introduce the survival wisdom that trees in this snowy region have acquired. We'll also focus on the forest's cycle, where new seedlings grow on fallen trees and stumps, and old trees become seedbeds for the next generation. 【Key Learning Points】 ・The wisdom of Tateyama cedars: extending their branches downwards to absorb the weight of the snow ・The strength to adapt their shape to the environment, rather than insisting on standing perfectly straight ・The forest's cycle: fallen trees and stumps become seedbeds for nurturing the next generation Bijodaira is known as a transfer point for the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route, but just a short walk from the station, you can experience dense nature surrounded by giant trees. However, the scenic trail includes steep stairs and slippery areas. Wear comfortable, non-slip shoes and allow ample time and energy for your walk. Don't forget bear precautions such as bear bells; prioritize safety during your stroll. To tidy up trees is to tidy up your own mind. The Tateyama cedar teaches us that going straight isn't always the right answer, no matter the environment. Instead of bearing all the weight head-on, it sometimes releases the force and changes its shape as it lives. Bending and drooping branches are not signs of weakness. I believe this is the strength of the Tateyama cedar, acquired to accept the harsh environment and continue to survive. #TateyamaCedar #Bijodaira #TateyamaKurobeAlpineRoute #GiantTree #Beech #SightseeingTrail #NatureObservation #TreeShapesInSnowCountry #PruningPath #LifePhilosophy #Gardener #LearningFromNature ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 🌿 Make pruning more fun!
