Unlike dwarf varieties, climbing beans need support to grow and produce abundant harvests. Hubert Fontaine shows us some examples of supports and stakes for growing pole beans. Pole beans are the ideal bean for maximizing your harvest in a small area. They are sown from April in the South and May in the North. It's easier to plan ahead for the types of supports and stakes you want to install. Bamboo, hazelnut cane, or rebar... choose sturdy stakes over 3 meters high. Traditional method: connect two canes at the top and install two on either side of the growing area. Attach a crossbar connecting these two supports, then place the other canes on this ridge rod. Other methods: • Teepee made with three rebars welded at their ends. • Trellis made from tile mesh, as is the case for this pergola, which will benefit from the flowering of the Fabaceae plants before harvest. • On a balcony, a rose support installed in a pot. Old wire mesh, fence, reclaimed supports... anything goes for cultivating climbing beans.
