Halych is not just a district center of Ivano-Frankivsk region, but a place where statehood was born. Already in 898, this settlement became a center of attraction, and later - the capital of the most powerful Galician principality. It was from the name of this city that the name of the entire region - Galicia came. Crafts once flourished here, majestic temples were built, and Prince Yaroslav Osmomysl turned Halych into one of the richest strongholds of medieval Europe. However, the history of the city was not easy: the Mongol-Tatar invasion of 1241, the transfer of the capital by King Danylo of Galicia to Kholm, constant attacks by invaders and a change of power. Ancient Halych, located near modern Krylos, today retains only echoes of its former greatness. However, history here comes to life in stone: from the foundations of 14 churches of the 12th-13th centuries to the remains of a powerful castle built on a hill above the Dniester. It is here that the monument to Danylo Halytsky stands, reminding us of the era when Halych was the heart of the political and church life of princely Rus. The Church of the Nativity of Christ, defensive ramparts, cave monasteries and the secrets of the Halych grave - every meter of this land is imbued with the spirit of history.
