Archimandrite Irinej Voronov Chernigov UOC Information Center: AT THE SAINT GEORGE DANIVSKY MONASTERY, THE MOURNING OF THE OLDEST CLERIC OF THE CHERNIGIV DIPEROSY, ARCHIMANDRIT IRENJY (VORONKOV) On March 4, at the Saint George Danivsky Monastery, with the blessing of Archbishop Nikodim, the secretary of the diocesan administration, Archpriest Ihor Pydan, with the concelebration of the diocesan clergy and guests from the Nizhyn and Kyiv eparchies, performed the rite of the funeral and burial of the newly deceased Archimandrite Irinej (Voronkov) in the monastery. This was reported by the UOC Information Center with reference to the press service of the Chernigov eparchy. Archimandrite Irinej (Voronkov), the oldest cleric of the Chernihiv diocese, reposed on March 2 at the age of 99. Monk Irinej devoted almost 80 years to serving the Holy Church, of which 56 years he zealously served in the priesthood. Abbess Pelagia (Filatova), as well as nuns and numerous parishioners of the monastery, prayed during the service. Archimandrite Irinej, in the world Boris Feodosievich Voronkov, was born in 1927 in the village of Havly, Buda-Koshelovsky district, Gomel region. From adolescence he was ordained a monk in the parish church. In Belarus he took monastic tonsure with the name Irinej. Further many years of service are associated with the Chernihiv diocese. He was ordained to the rank of hierodeacon on October 14, 1956, and to the rank of hieromonk on October 19, 1956 by Archbishop Andriy (Sukhenko). Starting from the same year and until his enlistment in the staff, Hieromonk Iryney served as the rector of parishes in the Bakhmatsk, Gorodnyansk, Kulykivsk, Ripkynsk, Sosnytsky, Tupychiv and Chernihiv deaneries. For his diligent service, Fr. Iryney was awarded a number of liturgical awards; in 1976 he was elevated to the rank of abbot, and in 1993 to the rank of archimandrite by Metropolitan Anthony (Vakarik).
