You can't visit New Zealand without exploring the Timber Trail

Whether you have a gravel bike or an MTB, the Timber Trail is a must do ride in New Zealand with several days of back country trail riding through native forest and across amazing suspension spans. I rode the trail as part of my Tour Aotearoa bike packing adventure cycling, but there are a number of shuttle providers if you just want to drive there and explore the trail without riding the surrounding region. For me personally this is one of the top rides on the trip and well worth checking out. If Rail Trails aren't quite exciting enough for you any more, this is the next step up in terms of adventure. 00:00 Intro 00:28 Arohena Campsite 01:00 Waipapa Hydro Dam 01:20 Mangakino 01:32 Waikatoi River Trails 02:40 Arataki Track 03:24 Centre of the North Island 04:09 Pureora 06:06 Start of the Timber Trail 06:54 Crawler Tractor 08:10 View of Lake Taupō 09:12 First suspension bridge 10:38 Mid point camping 11:30 Continuing downhill 13:10 Ongarue Spiral 13:36 Fast descent 14:12 End of the Timber Trail 14:43 Taumarunui 15:17 Camping in the rain 16:11 Outtro #bikepacking #newzealand #touraotearoa #cycling #timbertrailnz
