As women we're often told about culture and tradition whenever sexual and reproductive rights are brought up. The language that is used to address these matters can be as problematic as the preconceived and misguided notions that are often brought forward. Here I wanted to address some of that, particularly in relation to termination of pregnancy or abortion and what the ramifications of that are in the context of the ancestral. *I've used the word child, this is the nature of the agreement between the carrier (mother) and the unborn (child) foetus would be the scientific term, but this discussion addresses the spiritual agreements and not the science- although the science of it is indeed well within the realm of African medicine.
