BG 2.11 — Srila Prabhupada Lecture — Mexico City, February 11, 1975

Bhagavad-gītā 2.11 — the beginning of Kṛṣṇa’s instruction to Arjuna on the difference between the body and the self. In this lecture, Śrīla Prabhupāda explains the meaning of bhagavān uvāca, defining Bhagavān as the Supreme Being, the supreme controller, and the possessor of all opulences in full. He shows why Bhagavad-gītā is authoritative knowledge: it is spoken directly by Kṛṣṇa, from whom perfect wisdom descends. Śrīla Prabhupāda also discusses Arjuna’s acceptance of Kṛṣṇa as spiritual master, the meaning of disciple and discipline, and why lamentation based on bodily identification is the sign of ignorance. Drawing from Bhagavad-gītā, Brahma-saṁhitā, Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam, and Caitanya-caritāmṛta, he emphasizes the foundational Vedic teaching that we are not the material body but the eternal soul.
