Unbelievable Wild Edible You HAVE to Taste - How to ID, Gather & Cook Patience Dock!
Patience Dock (Rumex patientia) was originally cultivated in Europe and now grows wild in North America. Little is mentioned in wild food books about this plant but if you can find it, it is THE best dock out there! This video will give you the tips on how to identify it and prepare it for the kitchen! Further reading about this magnificent plant can be found in Samuel Thayer's book, "Nature's Garden" (Highly recommend) Also check out John Kallas's book, "Edible Wild Plants - From Dirt To Plate." You'll find an excellent description of "Curly Dock" which has near identical uses as Patience dock so it does prove very useful. Take an in-person wild food workshop with me? Do you live in the Northeastern part of the US or willing to travel there for a wild-food workshop? Consider gaining some hands on instruction with identifying, harvesting, preparing and cooking some of the best wild fruit, vegetables, grains and mushrooms this country has to offer! With over 25 years of direct experience, I teach groups, couples, families and individuals how to connect to the wild land by eating it. You can fill out the google form with your interest here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FA... Don’t live in the northeast? Consider a Virtual Workshop! These are available on Sundays from 11am - 8pm EST and consist of a one hour conversation/lecture on the topic of foraging -- based on your needs. Of course, foraging is best done in the field. That being said, you can gain quite a lot from a live instructional video. Maybe you’d like to learn a specific skill such as: how to process white-oak acorns into flour or how to avoid toxic plants and mushrooms of your area. Maybe you're in need of an overall, foraging “primer” to get you started out there. We could cover a lot of ground virtually -- so to speak!
