Queen - Live in Kanazawa (April 21st, 1979)
QUEEN Tour: Jazz // Leg 3: Japan Venue: Jissen Rinri Kinenkan City: Kanazawa, Japan Date: April 21st, 1979 Queen’s first and only show in Kanazawa wasn’t originally intended to be on the schedule, but a petition by local fans led to this extra date being added to the itinerary. After having pretty much died last night in terms of vocals by the end, Freddie's in possibly the worst shape he's ever been in by this point. He can barely sing anything above F4 and struggles hard with most of the songs, making several conservative phrasing choices and having a pretty hard time with nailing pretty much anything. After the second night in Osaka, 'Spread Your Wings' was dropped from the setlist in order to try and preserve Freddie's voice, but tonight it seems the band wanted to give it one more go as they randomly play it after 'It's Late', the final time this song would be played on the 'Jazz' tour. The people of Kanazawa create a very special atmosphere as it's clear their enthusiasm is at an all time high, really filling up this 5,000-seater venue, listen to 'Teo Torriatte' for some wonderful audience participation. The show instrumentally is a bit of a step-down when compared to last night, Brian breaks a string twice during the show, once during 'Killer Queen' and the second one during 'It's Late'.
